Release The Kraken

Friday I made it out to Subtext Gallery’s Release The Kraken! show, which coincided with their 5 year anniversary.

Subtext is the love-child of local graphic design heros Dylan Jones and Don Hollis.

The show consisted of repurposed 70′s hotel art, to which a host of sharp-shootin’ artists added their own, kraken flavored improvements.

Mike Maxwell and Scott Saw were on hand signing books Subtext printed of the show.

As were Lego master Gary McIntire,

and Tyler Cristobal.

The Makeup Sex rocked the house.

The always delicious Miho gastrotruck was there, serving up good eats.

Skateboarders checked out the show.

as did pretty girls,

Tough guys too,

and hipsters,

and, of course it’s not a real party until the cops show up.

Bloodwork: Proofs

I had the humbling experience of seeing proofs of Bloodwork: Bodies when I was in San Jose last weekend.  Seeing something tangible for the first time after almost two years of hard work was exciting to say the least. I can’t wait until this thing is out.

This picture of Adrian thumbing through said proofs was made with some crossed processed Velvia, that had to be ten years old, shot in my Bronica.

Port Brewing – Christmas In July

John Schulz and I made it out to Port Brewing’s Christmas In July party last weekend. As you can see, we took photos of drunk people with Santa Claus. Much to my disappointment, Santa stayed sober.

Good beer was enjoyed

The brew staff was friendly

The barmaids were cute.

Some people brought their kids to a party in a brewery..

There was lots of screaming

And toys and money were donated to The Marine’s Toys for Tots foundation.

The Casbah

Love this place. The Casbah is hands down the best rock club in San Diego and easily in my top fiveanywhere . Big ups to Tim Mays for keeping it real and putting love into his work.

The Books

I got the call to make a shot of all the tomes we’ve done over the years at Bloodwork Books. The pile represents over a decade of blood sweat and tears by some very talented people; and the next addition to the family is due in October. Thanks to everyone who’s been there over the years. I’m humbled to been allowed to document your work and honored to have strived along side you. All these books are available over at Analog’s site.

Secret Base

I’m finally getting around to posting this one. Obviously, it is more of the bullet themed art I’ve been doing lately. The skull was a gift from Hiddy at Secret Base in Tokyo. Once I was back in a country with over the counter ammunition sales, I spent about $300 filling the thing with bullets. The 16lb ammo skull was then taken to the studio of hammer dropping product photographer John Schulz where we photographed the thing. I brought the whole shooting match home, dropped in the logo, and there you go. These have been printed as a limited 11 x 17″ poster; if you want one, hit me up. Thanks to Hiddy, John, Patrick and Daniel for helping me bring this all together.
