I headed out to photograph Stone Brewing’s 16th anniversary party with the one and only John Schulz last weekend. As one might expect, it was a very dignified, sober affair full of really uptight, straight laced folks..

I got the chance to hang out with and photograph an old friend the other day. Joe Demaree and I played music, toured in the van, and generally caused trouble together when we were in our early 20′s in San Jose. Joe’s living down this way for now and is putting up some of his amazing paintings at Indigo Dragon in Encinitas this Sunday.

My collaborator and good friend Adrian Lee has been growing dreads since we first met in 1995. In the intervening 17 years, Adrian’s locks had grown to past his knees and despite their strange power to attract nubiles like moths to a flame, the head from which the smelly ropes sprouted decided it was time for a new look. Not one to miss a chance to indulge his ego, Adrian figured the best thing to do was make an elaborate short film to document the transformation. To that end, we assembled the troops and headed for the hills above San Francisco, armed with cameras, a 4-year-old stand in, a 7 foot tall mirror, and all manor of sheers. The result was a sunburned head and the movie we are proud to present to you today. Enjoy!
